Pinterest is both a blessing and a curse. On the one hand it’s a great source of inspiration but at the same time you can spend hours procrastinating as you jump from board to board looking at cool stuff.

Add to that the fact that a lot of pinners mislabel their images and you can spend a long time stuck in wedding dress and cupcake land. Try searching for CG on Pinterest and you’ll find a lot of pictures of Cary Grant, Clark Gable and “men who look like Christian Grey”. Do a search for computer graphics however and you get an old ad for the Apple II.

To help you get straight to finding the cool stuff I’ve already done the leg work. This collection includes some of the more popular boards as well as those that don’t have as many followers but are still worth following.

CG board compiled by Loïc Dupasquier

There are only 18 pins on here but it’s followed by nearly 300,000 people which is pretty impressive. Most pins feature abstract or geometric shapes without any context. I would classify this as a geeks board.

3D & Code compiled by Lou vega

There’s a lot of typography on this board and a lot of what I would describe as organic shapes. Although it doesn’t have many followers this board is pretty recently updated which doesn’t always happen on Pinterest.

3Dart compiled by Fabio Freitas

The defining feature of this board are characters and cars. There are a lot of photorealistic images and some really lovingly crafted pictures of Cadillacs. A lot of the characters also appear on João Martins 3D Character board but with a total of 178 pins at the time of writing it’s a well rounded board in its own right.

Kim Chi

Kim Chi is a user not a board but with over 1,100 pins, a lot of which are CGI, this is one account you will want to follow.

Conceptual Design compiled by Andrew Campbell

This board only has 7 pins, most of which are concepts for vehicles. I have no idea how it’s generated 380,826 followers but I felt it deserved a mention simply for its popularity.

CGI and Motion Graphics compiled by Chad Syme

This is another hyper-popular board that doesn’t actually have that many pins. With a meagre 24 pins Chad Syme has generated over 500,000 followers for this board which is pretty impressive.

Digital compiled by Patrica Schappler

This board features a lot of abstract and grotesque images including some that you might find depressing, The images are dark and morbid in places which makes it unusual for Pinterest (which is full of cupcakes, highheels and unicorns).

Ads compiled by Paul Hikiji

Not all of the ads in this board are CG but it’s still worth following.

My Digital Art compiled by adriana faranda

I’m not a fan of this particular artist but I’ve included this board for a reason. Entirely using self promotion they have managed to gather 1000 followers for their work and if they can do it then (in my opinion) anyone can.

Computer Generated Images compiled by Paven Necas and Anton Heestand

This board is one to watch if you’re into fantasy or sci-fi characters and photorealistic headshots.

3D Art compiled by Tara

Most pins here are fantasy characters, thin women or muscular men.

CGTrader

This is another user rather than a board. It’s actually a marketplace and while I don’t want to endorse it (because I’ve never used it) and it only has 33 followers right I think it’s worth keeping an eye on it.

3D Characters compiled by Allan Kirkwood

This whole board is nothing but characters. I’d also recommend following the user because he’s got enough CG boards that you’re going to be interested in at least one of them.

Character Design 3D compiled by Veridiana Rezeck

The final board is another character design board. A lot of the images on this board are a little dark and grotesque in a Tim Burton kind of way; they’re a bit Alice in Wonderland.
